Traverse City, MI – August 3, 2017 –Grand Traverse Pavilions today announced it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Nursing Care Center Accreditation, Post-Acute Care Certification, and Memory Care Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient and resident care.
“The Joint Commission Standards represent a higher commitment to the national patient safety goals, quality of care and treatment for all patients and tells other organizations that we are committed to improving and maintaining high standards,” said Rose Coleman, COO of Clinical Services. “As an organization we voluntarily opted to pursue accreditation for our Nursing Care Center, Memory Care and Post-Acute Care to demonstrate our commitment to quality care for our residents and patients. Doing all these at once was a big undertaking and involved over 1500 elements of standards.”
The Pavilions underwent a rigorous on-site survey July 17-20, 2017. During the review, Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated compliance with nursing care center standards related to several areas, including assistance with activities of daily living, coordination of care, and staff education and training. Surveyors also conducted on-site observations and interviews with leaders and staff of the organization.

Established in 1966, The Joint Commission’s Nursing Care Center Accreditation Program accredits more than 600 organizations that offer nursing home and other long term care services. Grand Traverse Pavilions is the first organization in Traverse City to earn Nursing Care Center Accreditation, and Post-Acute and Memory Care Certification and one of only a few in the state of Michigan to do so. The Post-Acute Care Certification award was launched in 2013 by The Joint Commission to recognize nursing homes that demonstrate advanced competencies in the provision of post-acute care to patients and residents recently hospitalized.
Likewise, the Memory Care Certification award was launched in 2014 by The Joint Commission to recognize nursing homes that demonstrate leading practices in dementia care through advanced staff training, and specialized care and service programming.
The accreditation and certification programs are awarded for a three-year period.
