Grand Traverse Pavilions has a long history of holding the Generations Gala to demonstrate the Pavilions commitment to successful aging from youth to maturity. Although our commitment has not waivered, we are refocusing our future fundraising efforts on our valued aging adults on the one National Holiday of the year that specifically recognizes our family’s elders – Grandparents Day.
The Pavilions Foundation will hold a special fundraising event on Sunday, September 10 in honor of “Grandparents Day” with a community-focused Grandparents Day Brunch & Benefit and a very special musical performance by internationally renowned pianist Robin Spielberg to celebrate this special day.
“Like those who first proposed the establishment of Grandparents Day in the mid 70’s, the Pavilions agrees that it is appropriate to take time to honor the contribution made by our elders,” says Deborah Allen, Executive Director of the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation. “We want to recognize the wisdom they have achieved through life experience, and to thank them for the many gifts that they have shared with us, our families, and our society – not the least of which is the gift of life that our Grandparents ultimately are responsible for. After all, if not for them, we would not have parents.”
President Jimmy Carter signed the presidential proclamation in 1978 that “the first Sunday of September following Labor Day” would be recognized as National Grandparents Day. Taking this lead, the Grand Traverse Pavilions will be celebrating all grandparents on Sunday, September 10, 2017 with a very special Grandparents Day Brunch & Benefit to support the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundations efforts to provide benevolent care and services to the aging adults in our region.
“We are excited to have the support of Prout Financial Design as grand sponsor,” said Kory Hansen, Administrator/CEO of Grand Traverse Pavilions. “Dennis Prout serves as the President of the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation Board and has been a long-time sponsor of the Pavilions and the work we do. He is a great champion for the elderly in our community.”
Artist Robin Spielberg is one of America’s most beloved pianist/composers. With an impressive tour schedule and hundreds of thousands of recordings sold, this Steinway Artist has been winning the hearts of listeners around the world with her compelling melodies and sensitive piano technique since debuting her first recording of original solos for piano, Heal of the Hand. Thousands of people have been both entertained and touched by Ms. Spielberg’s live concerts; her natural talent for making audiences immediately comfortable transforms what could easily be an ordinary evening at the concert hall into a very special concert Event. “Robin has such a personal and expressive way of playing, and her story-telling about the origins of the music makes the pieces come alive...the evening was both touching and mesmerizing” writes Wind & Wire Magazine of Robin’s San Francisco area concert. “Robin Spielberg has an undeniable melodic gift” says New York Concert Review of Ms. Spielberg’s Carnegie Hall debut. A prolific composer, Spielberg has seventeen recordings to her credit and appears on over 40 compilations around the world.
