INTERNATIONALLY-ACCLAIMED U.S. ARMY FIELD BAND & SOLDIERS’
CHORUS IN CONCERT JULY 6 AT GRAND TRAVERSE PAVILIONS
SPECIAL PERFORMANCE DURING NATIONAL CHERRY FESTIVAL
TRAVERSE CITY - The internationally-acclaimed United States Army Field Band of Washington, D.C. will continue its long tradition of presenting free public performances when it appears Monday, July 6, at 7 p.m. on the Grand Lawn at Grand Traverse Pavilions. The performance coincides with the National Cherry Festival, July 4-11, in Traverse City.
Presented by Grand Traverse Pavilions, the Field Band’s concert in Traverse City is sponsored by Cherry Capital Subaru and Munson Medical Center:100 Years of Caring.
The versatile evening program will feature an unparalleled range of music, including orchestral masterworks, operatic arias, world music, Sousa marches, spirituals, Americana, barbershop, jazz classics, and Broadway musicals. Radio personality Jack O’Malley of Midwestern Broadcasting/WTCM-FM will welcome and introduce the group.
“This one-night-only appearance by the Field Band in northern Michigan is an extraordinary opportunity to honor our military as well as our veterans and their families,” noted Patti DeAgostino, concert organizer and director of marketing and community relations for The Pavilions. “We’re proud to bring these musical ambassadors to our community.”
In the event of rain, DeAgostino noted the Field Band concert will relocate to Lars Hockstad Auditorium at Central Grade School, 310 Seventh Street in Traverse City. Military and veterans’ groups throughout the region are encouraged to attend this special event.
Since the Field Band performance is a lawn concert, attendees should bring blankets or chairs. Parking is limited so an early arrival is encouraged. There will concessions of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, beverages, and Moomer’s ice cream open at 6 p.m.
The 65-member Concert Band & 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus are the oldest and largest of the U.S. Army Field Band’s performing components. These two ensembles combine to present join concerts on their national tours. There will be two other performances downstate.
The Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus perform regularly in some of the most famous concert halls in the world, and just as often in the humblest auditoriums in the smallest of communities. They have shared the stage with ensembles such as the Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Besides their national tours, formal concerts, chamber recitals, and educational outreach, members of the Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus frequently represent the Army at formal and ceremonial functions, including the Presidential Inaugural Parade, Presidential funerals, the Army All-American Bowl, and diplomatic events overseas.
In addition to the Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus performance there will be 11 other Concerts On The Lawn this summer at Grand Traverse Pavilions on Thursdays beginning June 25 through September 3. Concert time will be 7 p.m.
