PLANNING A HEALTHIER NEW YEAR OPENS SUCCESSFUL AGING SERIES JAN. 28

TRAVERSE CITY, Mi - Grand Traverse Pavilions  opens its monthly Successful Aging Series  January 28 with a focus on a healthier new year in 2013.

The Successful Aging Series is sponsored, in part, by Comfort Keepers and features local speakers who are specialists in a range of fields from nutrition and elder law to athletic aging and financial planning.

The series is held on the fourth Monday of each month from 2 to 3 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of The Pavilions. There is no cost to attend. For details, contact 932-3027.

On Jan. 28, the series features staff from The Wellness Center at Grand Traverse Pavilions. The staff will look at ways in which to address healthier aging. They will explore the benefits of exercise, activity, and leisure.

Sandi McArthur, Oryana Education and Outreach Coordinator, will take center stage on Feb. 25. Her topic is “Better Eating For Better Aging.”

On March 25, Hearing Solutions of Northwest Michigan will focus on hearing loss. “Speak Up! Hearing Loss, Prevention and Care” will be the presentation.

Alternative medicine will be addressed on April 22. Jill Donberg and Elon Cameron of Grand Traverse Health Care will be the presenters. The duo will examine acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

Dennis Prout, owner of Prout Financial Design, will present May 20. His topic will be “Rejuvenating Your Retirement.”

Cremation and funeral laws will be discussed by Vaughn Sevolt, owner of Life Story Funeral Home. The June 24 remarks will look at “Who Makes The Final Decisions.”

On July 22, attorney Deborah Rysso of Rysso & Wingfield, PLLC, will address elder lawn. Her topic will be “Helping Families Navigate Through Legal Issues.”

Dave Eitland, development director for Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation, will speak Aug. 26. He will look at “Creative Giving and Your Bucket List.”

Popular columnist and senior benefits specialist Fred Goldenberg will make the presentation on Sept. 22. Goldenberg, owner of Senior Benefit Solutions, LLC, will look at “Medicare 2014.”

Peg Jonkhoff and Fred Hoisington will look back at history and re-enact “The Perrys: Our Town, Our History.” The program will take place Oct. 28.

On Nov. 18, marketing specialist Jennifer Simmer of Hospice of Michigan will lead the

discussion. Her topic will be “Have You Had The Talk.”

Finally, on Dec. 9 the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan will be featured. Staff will take a look at “When Jack Frost Comes Calling”. They will discuss winter survival tips and techniques.

Grand Traverse Pavilions, the premier senior community in northern Michigan,  is located just off Seventh Street and Elmwood Avenue in Traverse City.
